Sanmi Koyejo

Sanmi Koyejo is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Stanford University and founder/president of Black in AI. A 2005 NJIT alumnus, his research focuses on ethical AI, healthcare applications, and neuroscience. He advocates for diversity in AI through Black in AI, now a global community of 5,000 members.

His work addresses bias in automated systems, healthcare diagnostics via medical imaging (e.g., diabetes detection from X-rays), and neural connectivity studies to understand brain disorders. He revealed systemic biases in medical care linked to language proficiency and demographics during the COVID pandemic.

Advocacy efforts emphasize inclusive AI development through diverse perspectives, directly impacting tool creation for equitable societal applications.
