معرفی
Isabel Sanmartín is a Senior Research Scientist and Director of Science and Collections at the Real Jardín Botánico (CSIC), Spain. She holds a PhD from the University Complutense of Madrid (1998) and has held roles including Assistant Professor at Uppsala University (2003–2007) and Ramón y Cajal Fellow (2007–2008). Her research focuses on biogeography and evolutionary biology, particularly the integration of phylogenetic, genomic, and paleoenvironmental data to understand biodiversity patterns and climate impacts.
- Education: PhD in Evolutionary Biology (1998), National Museum of Natural Sciences, CSIC, Madrid.
Research interests include biogeographic modeling, macroevolutionary processes, and the role of climate change in extinction events. She pioneered Bayesian inference methods in biogeography and has contributed to understanding dispersal dynamics and ecological drivers of biodiversity assembly.
Her work spans over 100 publications in top journals like Systematic Biology and Nature Communications, with over 11,700 citations. Notable contributions include studies on insular floras, steppe biota evolution, and the impact of aridification on African lineages.
- Awards: Marie Curie Fellowship (2001), Editor-in-Chief of Systematic Biology (since 2022).
She oversees research programs for national and international agencies and mentors emerging scientists. Key projects include the ODDMANOUT and AFFLORA initiatives exploring climate-driven extinction and African flora assembly.
