Professor Sanjukta Deb is a prominent academic in biomaterials science at King's College London, holding dual roles as Professor of Biomaterials & Biophotonics and Dean for International Engagement & Service. She leads the Centre for Oral, Clinical & Translational Sciences within the Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences. Her research focuses on biomaterials for regenerative medicine, dental applications, and bone tissue engineering, with notable contributions to antimicrobial agents, dental bonding systems, and composite materials.
Deb has over 25 years of experience and has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles, authored books, and holds 7 patents. Her work spans biomaterials for craniofacial defects, antimicrobial agents, and innovative dentine substitutes. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Dental Materials and Royal Society of Chemistry, and has editorial roles in journals like Journal of Biomaterials Application.
Key research areas include hydrogel scaffolds for bone regeneration, self-etch bonding systems, and calcium silicate sealers. Her team develops multifunctional biomaterials addressing clinical challenges in dentistry and orthopaedics. Awards include the UK Society for Biomaterials' presidency and leadership roles in professional societies.
Deb supervises postgraduate students and collaborates internationally on projects like magnetic nanoparticle-based bone scaffolds and biohybrid tissue engineering. Her lab's innovations include safe enamel etchants for orthodontic brackets and strontium-folate loaded scaffolds for bone repair.
