Sanja Pupovac is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Business at the University of Wollongong (UOW), within the Faculty of Business and Law. Her research focuses on critical accounting, social and environmental accountability, and issues related to oil spills, mining impacts on Indigenous communities, and modern slavery. She holds a PhD from UOW and has been recognized for teaching excellence with multiple awards including the Vice-Chancellor's OCTAL Award and nominations for national teaching awards. As a Senior Fellow of Advance HE and WATTLE, she demonstrates commitment to pedagogical innovation. Her work bridges academia and activism, addressing corporate accountability in extractive industries and Indigenous rights advocacy. She currently supervises postgraduate research students and has coordinated the Master of Professional Accounting program. Professional roles include journal reviewing for Abacus, Accounting & Finance, and Critical Perspectives on Accounting. She has served on UOW's Academic Senate and University Education Committee, contributing to institutional governance.

Research Interests: Sanja’s work critically examines corporate disclosures around environmental and social issues, particularly in extractive industries. She explores how accounting practices can advance Indigenous rights, sustainability, and human rights compliance. Her interdisciplinary approach combines critical accounting theory with activism, focusing on marginalized communities affected by corporate activities.
Teaching & Mentoring: Renowned for innovative teaching methods, including open-book assessments, Sanja has been a Course Director for MPA programs. Her mentorship has guided students through complex research topics like vernacular accounting practices in Pakistan and colonial impacts on Indigenous Australian land rights. She actively bridges pedagogy with social justice through curriculum design.
