Dr. Sangeet Lamichhaney is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Kent State University, affiliated with the Environmental Science and Design Research Institute. His research integrates comparative omics (genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, metabolomics) and eco-physiology to study molecular mechanisms of adaptive evolution in diverse non-model organisms such as birds, lizards, frogs, and mammals. He leads the OMICS Lab, focused on understanding organismal responses to environmental challenges, including high-altitude adaptation and species conservation.
Dr. Lamichhaney holds a PhD in Evolutionary Genomics from Uppsala University (Sweden) and was a Wenner-Gren Fellow at Harvard University (USA). His courses include Introduction to Genomics, Ecological and Evolutionary Genetics, and specialized topics like Island Biology and Study Trip to Galápagos.
His research emphasizes genomic approaches to address ecological and evolutionary questions, such as invasive species dynamics (e.g., avian vampire flies in Galápagos), high-altitude adaptation in Tibetan partridges, and cryptic species diversity in storks using museum specimens. Key themes include gene flow, mutation load, and ancestral genetic modules driving adaptive radiation in Darwin’s finches.
While no scientific awards are explicitly listed, his work has been published in high-impact journals, with a focus on conservation genomics, population dynamics, and evolutionary mechanisms. His lab collaborates on projects combining fieldwork, genomic analysis, and computational biology to advance understanding of biodiversity threats and adaptive processes.
