Sandy Grande is a Professor of Political Science and Native American and Indigenous Studies at the University of Connecticut, with affiliations in American Studies, Philosophy, and the Race, Ethnicity and Politics program. Her research integrates Indigenous Studies with critical theory to analyze colonialism and contemporary socio-political dynamics. She co-founded New York Stands for Standing Rock, advocating for Indigenous sovereignty, and co-authored the Standing Rock Syllabus. She holds a Ford Foundation Senior Fellowship (2019-2020) for her project on Indigenous Elders and aging. Beyond academia, she has been a primary caregiver for her father for over a decade.
Her work includes the book Red Pedagogy: Native American Social and Political Thought (10th anniversary edition, 2021) and articles such as 'Accumulation of the Primitive: The Limits of Liberalism' and 'American Indian Geographies of Identity and Power.'
