Sandro C. Amico

Sandro C. Amico serves as Professor of Materials Engineering at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil, where he leads the Composites and Nanocomposites Research Group. Appointed as an IPF Fellow on September 12, 2025, his work centers on international collaboration with the Leibniz Institute of Polymer Research Dresden to advance composite materials science.

His research specializes in polymer composite innovation through hybrid manufacturing techniques like filament winding combined with tailored fiber placement for structural crashworthiness enhancement. Key methodologies include Fiber Bragg Grating sensor integration for real-time pressure vessel monitoring and computational optimization of reinforced components. These experimental-numerical approaches critically examine stress distribution mechanics, failure behaviors, and performance limits in advanced composites.
