Sandra Mooney

Sandra Mooney, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. She is affiliated with the UNC Nutrition Research Institute located in Kannapolis, NC. Her work focuses on nutritional interventions to address alcohol-induced developmental deficits and examines genetic and nutritional factors influencing vulnerability in pregnancy.

Education: PhD in Anatomy and Structural Biology from the University of Otago, New Zealand (1997).

Research: Investigates Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), with a focus on animal model studies to identify nutritional strategies mitigating alcohol-related developmental impairments. Examines interactions between genetics, nutrition, and environmental factors affecting fetal health.
