Sandra Langeslag is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at the University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL). Her research explores the neurocognitive mechanisms underlying emotion and motivation, with a particular focus on romantic love. Using techniques such as event-related potentials (ERP), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), and behavioral methods, she investigates how love affects attention and memory, and whether these effects can be regulated cognitively. Her work has demonstrated that infatuated individuals exhibit enhanced attention and memory for their beloved, while also examining how romantic distraction impacts task performance and daily functioning.
Dr. Langeslag holds a Ph.D. in biological and cognitive psychology from Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands. Her research spans disciplines including psychology, neuroscience, and cognitive-behavioral neuroimaging, with applications in emotion regulation, motivation, and memory studies. She has collaborated with researchers like Davis, Surti, and van Steenbergen on topics ranging from sexual desire regulation to ERP correlates of romantic distraction.
Recent publications highlight trends in romantic love neurocognition, emotional memory, and cognitive regulation. While no specific awards are mentioned, her work remains widely cited and influential in understanding the intersection of emotion and cognition. She has also explored the effects of aging on emotional memory and attention, using ERP to dissect temporal dynamics of emotional processing.
