Sandra L. Singer is a Professor of German in Alfred University's College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, based at Perlman Hall. Her academic career includes significant contributions to Women's and Gender Studies, earning both the Abigail Allen Award and Excellence in Teaching Award in 2010. She holds a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1992), MA from the same institution (1986), and BA from Michigan State University (1983).
Her research focuses on transnational women's education history, 19th-century German literature, and feminist literary criticism. Notable works include Adventures Abroad: North American Women at German-speaking Universities (2003) and studies of authors like Isolde Kurz and Hedwig Dohm. She has also contributed German language textbooks for beginners and intermediate learners.
Professional memberships include the American Association of Teachers of German, German Studies Association, and Modern Language Association. Her teaching spans German language courses, Women's History, and Ancient Mediterranean History.
