Sandra Horton is an Associate Professor in the Division of Nursing at Indiana Wesleyan University, where she contributes to the Masters Nursing program. She holds a DNP (2015) from Indiana Wesleyan University, an MSN in Nursing Administration (1999) from the University of Phoenix, and a BSN (1987) from Olivet Nazarene University.
With over 30 years of professional experience, Dr. Horton transitioned to nursing education in 2010, focusing on enhancing student writing skills and faculty grading practices. Her clinical background includes 10 years in medical surgical nursing and 8 years managing a bowel surgery unit, followed by 12 years in hospital corporate project management addressing documentation compliance, nursing process standardization, and quality indicator reporting.
Her global health work includes academic trips to Haiti (as a doctoral student and faculty member) to improve maternal/infant mortality rates through lay midwife education. She resides in the Chicago area with her family, sharing interests in travel, music, and family-centered activities.
