Sandra Bornand is a Research Fellow at the CNRS, affiliated with LLACAN (UMR 8135), a joint research unit of CNRS, INALCO, and EPHE. She holds a Doctorate in Ethnolinguistics from UNIL (University of Lausanne) and is qualified as a lecturer in Language Sciences and Anthropology.
- Education: BA in French, German & Art History (UNIL), 1995; Specialized Studies in Anthropology (UNIL), 1996; Doctorate in Ethnolinguistics (UNIL), 2002.
Her research focuses on the ethnolinguistic analysis of Songhay-Zarma oral traditions, gender studies, linguistic pragmatics, and cultural memory in Niger. She has organized international summer schools, co-directed research seminars, and led projects like "Langares" on religious discourse.
Recent publications examine themes such as oral protest discourse, griot modernity, and female agency in migration narratives. Her work bridges linguistic anthropology, ethnopoetics, and sociolinguistics.
- Scientific Awards: 2003 Maurice Millioud Prize for her doctoral thesis.
She has served on thesis and master’s exam juries, participated in editorial boards (Cahiers de Littérature Orale, Glad?), and collaborated on museum exhibitions like "Paroles d’Afrique" at Bordeaux Ethnographic Museum.
