Dr. Samuel Yeaman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Calgary. His research focuses on evolutionary genomics, particularly how organisms adapt to heterogeneous environments. He explores genomic architecture of complex traits, adaptation to climate change, and cultural evolution. His lab uses computational models, comparative genomics, and population genetics to address these questions.
Education: B.S. in Resources and Environment (Trent University, 2015); Ph.D. in Zoology (University of British Columbia, 2010).
Research projects include genome rearrangements in threespine stickleback, comparative genomics of local adaptation in pine species, and visualization of high-dimensional genomic data. He also investigates the maintenance of genetic variation and misinformation dynamics in cultural systems.
Teaches courses such as BIOL 241 (Energy Flow in Biological Systems) and BIOL 401 (Evolutionary Biology).
Awards: Recognized with the Canadian Society for Ecology and Evolution Early Career Award (2015) and the AIHS Chair in Bioinformatics (2015–2022).
Labs/Teams: Leads the Yeaman Lab, collaborating on applied problems in medicine and agriculture.
