Samuel Spiegel is a Lecturer in International Development at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. As an accomplished scholar and socioecological activist, he has authored peer-reviewed publications in leading journals and UN reports, collaborating with Canadian development agencies and the United Nations to address global development challenges across Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
Spiegel's research investigates environmental management and sustainable social change in artisanal mining communities during the global gold rush. Through fieldwork in Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique, he documents local narratives and community-driven solutions to guide policy, mitigate environmental degradation, and improve miners' livelihoods. His work emphasizes the interconnectedness of political, economic, and ecological systems, aiming to elevate marginalized voices in the global discourse on social justice and human rights.
