Samuel Mathieu is a doctoral graduate in Urban Studies from the School of Management (ESG UQAM) and a planner specializing in built heritage. He works as a consultant in municipal settings and as a Lecturer at college and university levels. Samuel is an Associate Researcher with the Canada Research Chair in Urban Heritage and a member of the practice circles of the Cities, Regions, World Network. His career includes roles as a heritage development coordinator (2019-2021) for the City of Laval, a cultural development advisor (2021-2022) for Montreal Island Customer Services Department, and a current heritage advisor (since 2023) for the Quebec Ministry of Culture and Communications' Partnerships and Heritage Development Department.

His research explores the requalification of Montreal's Catholic churches through architectural, typo-morphological, and participatory dimensions. He focuses on urban heritage conservation, religious architecture, and citizen engagement in heritage processes.
Samuel actively participates in academic events such as ACHS2016 as a moderator and attendee in sessions addressing topics like industrial heritage, post-colonial urban heritage, and sacred space preservation. He has also contributed to projects on urban identity, regionalist architecture, and metropolization landscapes.
