Samuel Lofland

Dr. Samuel Lofland is a Professor and Department Head in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Rowan University’s College of Science & Mathematics. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Maryland (1995) and has been recognized with the Rowan University Award for Excellence in Research (2007) and the Society of Physics National Advisor of the Year (2009). His research focuses on magnetic materials, thermal materials, and strongly correlated systems, particularly colossal magnetoresistance and diluted magnetic semiconductors. He is affiliated with the American Physical Society and IEEE.

Dr. Lofland’s research explores advanced materials with a focus on colossal magnetoresistance, diluted magnetic semiconductors, and magnetic resonance phenomena. His work is interdisciplinary, bridging physics, materials science, and engineering to develop applications in sensor technology, nanoscale materials, and electronic transport.

His recent publications highlight trends in magnetic properties of perovskite oxides, defect-driven magnetism, and microwave response in nanoscale materials. Topics include ferromagnetic resonance, charge ordering, and structural analysis of manganites and hexaborides.

He leads research in the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center, focusing on magnetic and thermal materials. His lab investigates microstructure-property relationships in advanced materials using techniques like pulsed laser deposition and magnetic resonance imaging.
