Dr Samuel Larner is a Senior Lecturer in Forensic Linguistics at Manchester Metropolitan University's Department of English (Humanities and Social Sciences faculty). He holds a PhD from Aston University, MA from Cardiff University, and BA from Lancaster University. His research focuses on youth justice systems, deception detection, forensic authorship analysis, and linguistic patterns in mental health contexts. He has held significant roles including Programme Leader for MSc Communication, Behaviour and Credibility Analysis and Steering Committee Member at the Manchester Centre for Youth Studies.
Research Projects:
- 2020-2022: Led major study on the Youth Justice System’s response to the pandemic's impact on policy and vulnerable children
- Explored child disclosures of abuse through online counseling platforms
- Analyzed cross-cultural deception markers and linguistic creativity in schizophrenia
