Samuel Kernell is a Distinguished Emeritus Professor of Political Science at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He has held academic roles since 1977, including Professor since 1984. His research focuses on the American presidency, political history, and legislative processes. He earned his B.A. from Millsaps College (1967) and Ph.D. from UC Berkeley (1975).
