Samuel Goyvaerts is an Associate Professor of Liturgical Studies and Sacramental Theology at the Tilburg School of Catholic Theology (TST), Tilburg University. He holds a PhD from KU Leuven (Belgium) and focuses on liturgical theology, Vatican II reforms, and the interplay between liturgy and church architecture. His work bridges liturgical theology and pastoral practice, emphasizing liturgical formation and church-space dynamics. He serves as vice-dean for education at TST, a board member of the Liturgical Institute, and editor of Questions Liturgiques. Additional roles include teaching at the Higher Institute for Religious Sciences (Bisdom Hasselt) and research at KU Leuven’s Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies.
Key research interests include the Liturgical Movement, adaptive reuse of church architecture, and the relationship between liturgy and ecclesiology (church theory). His contributions address modern challenges such as digital liturgical practices during pandemics and the theological implications of church space design. Recent publications explore Pope Francis’s liturgical theology and sacramental adaptations in Dutch lockdown contexts.
