Dr. Samuel Brandt is a Research Fellow in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Gonville and Caius College, University of Cambridge, and a member of the Infrastructural Geographies research group within the Department of Geography. His work focuses on cultural-historical geography of modern Latin America, particularly Uruguay, Brazil, and Argentina. He holds a PhD from UCLA and has received multiple prestigious awards, including the AAG Carville Earle Award (2023) and the American Geographical Society Fellowship (2023).
His research explores the history and geography of built environments, the societal value of geographic knowledge, and transnational historical-geographical connections. Key projects include studies on Uruguay’s rural housing policies (MEVIR) and the role of football in shaping national identity. He has authored articles in Geographical Review and Journal of Latin American Geography, and is working on three book manuscripts: More Than a Home, The Little Country in the Middle, and Sky Blue Dreams.
