Saminda Sundeepa Balasuriya

Dr Saminda Sundeepa Balasuriya is a Research Fellow at the QUT Centre for Robotics. His work focuses on Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and accessibility, particularly in co-designing technology with people with intellectual disabilities and their support networks. He explores applications of emerging technologies like virtual reality, 3D printing, and social robots for learning and recreational purposes.

Saminda holds a Master of IT (HCI) from Queensland University of Technology, where his research examined voice-activated interfaces and social robotics to enhance collaboration among adults with intellectual disabilities. His doctoral research further expanded these themes, emphasizing technology adoption and empowerment in marginalized communities.

His research interests include optimizing robotic support for individuals with disabilities, inclusive design practices, and leveraging technology to improve quality of life. He is affiliated with the QUT Centre for Robotics, contributing to interdisciplinary projects that bridge technology and social impact.
