Dr. Samina Noorali Assanie-Shivji is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Claflin University's School of Natural Sciences & Mathematics. She holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Karachi, Pakistan, and a diploma in Medical Technology from Michigan State University.

Her research focuses on elucidating how microRNAs regulate Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), Influenza A Virus (Flu), and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infections using in vitro tissue culture models. She has received the James E. Hunter Award for Excellence in Teaching and Career Development at Claflin University.
Dr. Assanie-Shivji has published extensively on viral interactions, including studies on HIV-1, HCV, HBV, HHV-8, and HTLV-I/II. She established the Molecular Virology Laboratory at Claflin and works on identifying potential microRNA-based therapeutics for viral diseases.
