Dr. Sami Uddin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Regina, Faculty of Science. His research focuses on Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), particularly spatial memory development and expertise acquisition in graphical interfaces. He holds a PhD and MSc in Computer Science from the University of Saskatchewan and a BSc from Islamic University of Technology.
Research interests center on designing interaction techniques for multi-touch devices, AR/VR systems, and spatial interfaces to accelerate user expertise. Key areas include landmark-based navigation, gesture recognition, and cognitive load optimization in graphical user interfaces.
His publications demonstrate a consistent focus on improving spatial learning in interfaces through empirical studies. Recent works explore high-capacity menu designs, tablet interaction efficiency, and open-source community behaviors, with ongoing investigations into AR/VR applications.
Awards include an Honorable Mention at CHI 2021 for landmark research and Best Poster at Graphics Interface 2017. He supervises graduate students in HCI projects and collaborates with the Interaction Lab at University of Saskatchewan.
