Samantha Hayward is a Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bath, affiliated with the Centre for Bioengineering & Biomedical Technologies (CBio). Her research bridges biomechanics, robotics, and engineering education.
Dr. Hayward earned her PhD from the University of Bath in 2023 with the thesis 'Mechanical factors affecting lower back pain', supervised by P.S. Keogh, A.W. Miles, and S. Gheduzzi.
Her research focuses on biomechanics (intervertebral disc behavior under low strain rates), engineering education for secondary pupils, and robotics for manufacturing optimization. Current projects examine spinal mechanics, educational design processes, and robotic error compensation.
Recent publications reveal interdisciplinary trends: her 2025 work integrates robotics with precision manufacturing, the 2024 study analyzes spinal tissue mechanics, and the 2023 paper develops K-12 engineering curricula. This demonstrates a cohesive trajectory merging biomedical engineering with practical educational and industrial applications.
Dr. Hayward actively contributes to the Centre for Bioengineering & Biomedical Technologies (CBio), where she leads research in bioengineering applications and collaborates on spinal mechanics projects.
