Samantha Brady is a Research Fellow and Trial Manager at the University of York's School of Health Sciences, specializing in mental health research and clinical trial management. She has been with the University since 2013 and is based at the York Trials Unit, where she manages multiple significant research projects including BioDrive AFS, BATH-OUT-2, SCEPTRE, and PERISCOPE trials.
Her research interests focus on mental health conditions, particularly the intersection of mental health problems and physical comorbidity. She specializes in clinical trials methodology, systematic reviews, and qualitative research approaches. Brady's work often addresses vulnerable populations, including people with severe mental illness, older adults, and those with long-term physical conditions.
Her recent publications demonstrate expertise across multiple domains of health research, with a strong emphasis on mental health interventions, physical activity promotion for people with severe mental illness, and responses to the psychological impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Her work spans clinical trials, systematic reviews, and qualitative studies addressing important public health challenges.
Brady serves as a peer reviewer for several prestigious journals including NIHR, BMC Trials, BMC Psychiatry, Health Expectations, Frontiers in Psychiatry, and World Journal of Psychiatry. She has presented her work at international conferences including the Society of Social Medicine, International Academy of Mental Health and Law, and World Mental Health Day events.
As an experienced supervisor, she mentors Masters and PhD students focusing on mental health problems and physical health, with particular interest in interventions to improve health and wellbeing of people with severe mental illness. She is also an active member of the Peer Support for Teaching Working Group and the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee at her institution.
