Samah Choudhury

Samah Choudhury is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Race, Diaspora, and Indigeneity at the University of Chicago for the 2023-2024 academic year. She concurrently serves as an Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at Ithaca College, where she teaches courses on religion, race, pop culture, and Islam. Her research focuses on intersections of humor, subjecthood, religion, and race in contemporary America, particularly examining how 'a sense of humor' is constructed as a positive trait and how American Muslim identities navigate secular frameworks.

Choudhury is currently working on her first book, *American Muslim and the Politics of Secularity*, which explores these themes in depth. Her scholarship bridges critical race theory, religious studies, and cultural analysis, offering insights into the lived experiences of marginalized communities in the U.S.
