Sam Salman is a Clinical Professor at the UWA Medical School, The University of Western Australia. His research focuses on pharmacokinetics, antimicrobial therapies, and pediatric infectious diseases. Key areas include optimizing antibiotic regimens for neonates, developing long-acting penicillin formulations for rheumatic fever prevention, and evaluating drug delivery methods (e.g., subcutaneous vs. intravenous). He has contributed to over 106 peer-reviewed publications and led/co-led four major grants addressing pediatric malaria management, pain relief via tramadol formulations, and syphilis/rheumatic fever prophylaxis.
Research Interests:
- Pharmacokinetic modeling of antibiotics like penicillin G and amoxicillin
- Optimizing treatment protocols for Streptococcus pyogenes infections and syphilis
- Subcutaneous drug administration alternatives
- Antimicrobial efficacy in vulnerable populations (e.g., neonates, Indigenous communities)
Grants/Projects:
- Enhanced pediatric malaria management in Plasmodium species-endemic regions
- Development of palatable tramadol formulations for pediatric pain
- SCIP trial for high-dose benzathine penicillin in rheumatic heart disease prevention
Collaborations involve institutions globally, particularly in Papua New Guinea and New Zealand. His work aligns with UN SDGs related to Good Health and Well-being.
