Sam Pittman

Sam Pittman is a Teaching Professor and Director of the Disability Studies Certificate at the University of Pittsburgh. He teaches in the Department of English, focusing on Composition, Public and Professional Writing, and courses like Writing for Accessibility. Pittman is affiliated with Athletics, First-Year Programs, and the Office of Undergraduate Research, among others. His research interests include Disability Studies, Poetry, and Writing Center Pedagogy.

Education: MFA from the University of Pittsburgh and BA from UC Berkeley.

Research highlights include his poetry chapbook Mostly Water (2016) and publications in journals like Grist and the Bellevue Literary Review. His work explores intersections of disability, creative writing, and accessibility in education.

Pittman serves as a Faculty Consultant at the Writing Center and leads initiatives in undergraduate research and first-year academic programs. He has contributed to the University Faculty Awards and maintains active roles in campus-wide educational initiatives.
