Sam McBride is an Academic Tutor in Psychology and a PhD student at the University of Sunderland. He completed his BSc (Hons) Psychology with Counselling and MSc in Psychological Research Methods at the same institution in 2020 and 2021, respectively. His PhD research (supervised by Dr. Rebecca Owens, Dr. Jon Rees, and Professor Yitka Graham) uses mixed methods to investigate barriers to male help-seeking in bariatric care, aiming to improve uptake in the region.
He teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate psychology courses, including modules like FDN039 – Contemporary Issues in Psychology, PSYC102 – The Building Blocks of Psychological Research, PSYC103 – Counselling Foundations, and PSY247 – Everyday Motivations and Biases. His research interests focus on gender disparities in healthcare access and experiential learning frameworks.
