Sam Daniel, MD, M.Sc., is a Professor in the Department of Pediatric Surgery within McGill University's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and a Senior Scientist at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC). He leads the McGill Auditory Sciences Laboratory and is affiliated with the Child Health and Human Development Program and the Centre for Translational Biology.
His research focuses on pediatric otolaryngology, with emphasis on:
- Hearing loss mechanisms from middle ear disease and ototoxicity
- Prevention of platinum-induced hearing damage in cancer patients
- Development of animal/computer models for ear pathophysiology
- Therapeutic innovations for auditory disorders
His publications demonstrate consistent focus on pediatric otolaryngology interventions, with recent work emphasizing international consensus guidelines for tracheostomy emergencies and mycobacterial infections. The majority of his articles involve multi-institutional collaborations and focus on improving clinical protocols.
Dr. Daniel leads the McGill Auditory Sciences Laboratory, where his team investigates molecular mechanisms of hearing damage and develops protective strategies against ototoxic agents. His work bridges clinical otolaryngology with translational neuroscience research.
