Sam Bayat

Sam Bayat is a Professor of Physiology at Université Grenoble Alpes Medical School and a physician at Grenoble University Hospital. He serves as Director of the Synchrotron Radiation for Biomedicine (STROBE) INSERM-UA7 laboratory and heads the Lung Function Laboratory at Grenoble University Hospital. Additionally, he chairs the Clinical Physiology, Exercise and Functional Imaging group at the European Respiratory Society.

His research focuses on imaging regional lung structure and function using advanced synchrotron radiation techniques, particularly in healthy lungs and models of obstructive lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). This work bridges biomedical imaging, respiratory physiology, and functional imaging methodologies.

He is actively involved in clinical physiology and contributes to integrative pharmacology and drug discovery through his leadership roles.
