Sally L. Ashton is a Lecturer in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at San José State University (SJSU). She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Poetry and Literature from Bennington College (2003) and a Bachelor of Arts in English from SJSU (2001). Her research and creative work focus on poetry, the intersection of arts and science, and the relationship between image and word.

As Editor-in-Chief of DMQ Review, she curates poetry and art. She served as Santa Clara County Poet Laureate (2011–2012), initiating projects such as "Poetry on the Move", placing residents’ poems on public transit.
