Dr. Sally Camper is a Professor in the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Michigan. She joined the faculty in 1988 as an Assistant Professor and was later appointed the Margery W. Shaw Distinguished University Professor. Camper established the Transgenic Animal Model Core facility and served as Department Chair from 2005 to 2015.
- Education: BA in Chemistry (University of Delaware), PhD in Biochemistry (Michigan State University), and postdoctoral training at Case Western Reserve University, Fox Chase Cancer Center, and Princeton University.
Research Interests focus on pituitary development, genetic disorders, and transcriptional regulation. Her work employs transgenic mouse models to study congenital hypopituitarism, holoprosencephaly, and septo-optic dysplasia. She investigates the role of transcription factors like PROP1, Ash1l, and SOX2 in pituitary stem cell differentiation, corticofacial development, and RNA splicing mechanisms.
Article Trends highlight collaborations with colleagues like Jacob Kitzman, Michelle Brinkmeier, and Maria Ines Perez-Millan. Topics span WNT signaling, noncoding RNA, epigenetic regulation, and congenital pituitary defects. Key methods include transcriptomics, proteomics, and organoid culture.
- Scientific Awards: Margery W. Shaw Distinguished University Professor of Human Genetics (University of Michigan).
Grants and Leadership: Camper has secured multiple grants for pituitary research and led the Transgenic Animal Model Core facility. Her leadership as Department Chair (2005–2015) strengthened the department’s research profile in human genetics and developmental biology.
