Sally Ayesa

Dr. Sally Ayesa is a dual-trained radiologist and nuclear medicine specialist practicing at Royal North Shore Hospital and I-MED Radiology. She holds a Lecturer position at the University of Sydney within the Sydney Medical Program, serving as Unit Coordinator for Essential Imaging for Clinicians and the Master of Medicine and Surgery programs. Her current PhD research focuses on improving medical imaging education for clinicians. She leads the Medical Imaging specialty within the Sydney Medical Program and chairs academic support initiatives.

Dr. Ayesa’s research spans radiology education, gender diversity in medicine, infection/inflammation imaging, and lung cancer diagnosis. She actively contributes to national and international committees, including the RANZCR Curriculum Assessment Committee and the AANMS Training Accreditation Committee. As Radiology Education Writing Lead for the National Lung Cancer Screening Program, she also edits for Radiopaedia.org and co-convened its 2022 Virtual Conference.

Her awards include the 2017 HR Sear Medal (RANZCR Phase II Radiodiagnosis), 2019 Emerging Leader in Medical Education Award (University of Sydney), and 2022 Consultant Teacher of the Year (Wyong Hospital). She has published extensively on imaging education, theranostics, and gender equity in radiology leadership.

Dr. Ayesa’s teaching spans medical students, clinicians, and radiology registrars, emphasizing practical imaging interpretation, patient safety, and cross-specialty collaboration. Her academic work integrates emerging technologies like PET/CT and theranostics into clinical practice while advocating for diversity in medical training and leadership.
