Prof. Dr. Salih OTLU is a distinguished Professor in Veterinary Microbiology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Kafkas University, Turkey. With over 30 years of academic experience, he has held various prestigious positions including Department Head, School Director, General Secretary, Vice Rector, and Dean at Kafkas University. His career trajectory shows steady progression from Research Assistant (1991-1996) to Assistant Professor (1997-2003), Associate Professor (2003-2008), and finally full Professor (2008-present).
Prof. OTLU earned his Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Medicine from Fırat University (1983-1988) and completed his Doctorate in Veterinary Microbiology at Kafkas University's Institute of Health Sciences (1991-1996). His academic journey reflects deep commitment to veterinary sciences and microbiology.
Prof. OTLU's research focuses on zoonotic diseases, bacterial infections in animals, veterinary epidemiology, and microbial resistance. His work particularly emphasizes brucellosis, anthrax, mycoplasma, and other bacterial pathogens affecting livestock. His research has significant implications for animal health, food safety, and public health due to the zoonotic nature of many studied pathogens. His laboratory employs advanced molecular techniques including PCR, phylogenetic analysis, and bacterial identification methods to understand pathogen evolution, host specificity, and antibiotic resistance patterns.
With over 148 publications and an h-index of 9, Prof. OTLU has made substantial contributions to veterinary microbiology. His recent work shows increasing focus on molecular characterization of pathogens, host-pathogen interactions, and zoonotic disease transmission. His publications span high-impact journals in veterinary science, microbiology, and infectious diseases, demonstrating interdisciplinary impact.

Prof. OTLU has successfully supervised 9 graduate students (5 PhD and 4 Master's) and secured funding for 27 research projects. His research portfolio includes studies on anthrax, brucellosis, mycoplasma, and other zoonotic diseases. He has been involved in international collaborations, including the Anthrax Environmental Decontamination Network (AEDNet) project supported by the European Union.
Prof. OTLU leads a vibrant research group focused on veterinary microbiology and zoonotic diseases at Kafkas University. His team employs multidisciplinary approaches combining traditional microbiology with modern molecular techniques to address critical challenges in animal health and disease prevention.
