Sajay Arthanat is a Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of New Hampshire, affiliated with the College of Health and Human Services. He is a licensed occupational therapist (OTR/L) and assistive technology professional (ATP), with clinical and research expertise in assistive, rehabilitative, and information-communication technologies for individuals across the lifespan.
His educational background includes a Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Therapy from the State University of New York at Buffalo, a C.A.G.S. in Rehabilitation Therapy from the same institution, and a B.S. in Occupational Therapy from Santosh College Occupational Therapy.

Dr. Arthanat’s research centers on user-centered design and implementation of innovative technologies such as wearables, robotics, and smart home automation to promote health, community living, and aging-in-place. His work spans assistive technology for people with disabilities, mobile health (mHealth), virtual reality, and health monitoring devices. He has secured over $5 million in research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF), underscoring the significance and impact of his interdisciplinary research.
His recent publications reflect a strong trend in applying technology to support older adults and individuals with cognitive impairments, particularly in areas like dementia care, eHealth adoption, telepresence robotics, and safe driving. The research integrates human factors, usability, and psychosocial considerations, often published in top-tier interdisciplinary and occupational therapy journals such as Applied Sciences, Frontiers in Public Health, and the American Journal of Occupational Therapy.
Dr. Arthanat is actively involved in professional service, having held roles in the American Occupational Therapy Foundation and the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA). He teaches courses including Assistive Technology for Occupational Performance, Honor/Living & Doing with Tech, and Engagement in Research, and mentors students through Doctoral Capstone projects.
He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles, with several highly cited works focusing on the usability of assistive technology and the application of the ICF framework. His research lab focuses on the Center for Digital Health Innovation, where he leads projects on wearable systems, telepresence, and technology adoption among older adults.
