Sailaja V. Krishnamurti

Sailaja V. Krishnamurti is an Associate Professor and current Head of the Department of Gender Studies at Queen's University. She serves on leave from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025. Her research employs a critical race feminist lens to examine religion and representation in the South Asian diaspora and transnational contexts. She holds a PhD in Social and Political Thought (York University, 2008) and an MA in English Literature and Social and Political Thought (University of Victoria, 2000).

Dr. Krishnamurti's work challenges the marginalization of racialized scholars in academia and promotes anti-racist, anti-colonial feminist praxis in teaching, mentoring, and leadership. She previously taught at Saint Mary’s University in the Department for the Study of Religion and Women and Gender Studies. Her leadership aims to foster inclusive intellectual and activist communities within Gender Studies and Black Studies at Queen’s.
