Saifur Rahman is the Joseph Loring Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Virginia Tech, affiliated with the Virginia Tech Research Center - Arlington. His expertise spans smart grid technologies, alternative energy systems, and environmental impacts of infrastructural developments. He holds a Ph.D. (1978) and M.S. (1975) in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech and State University of New York, respectively, and a B.Sc. (1973) from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology.
Research interests include critical infrastructure modeling, renewable energy integration, and climate resilience strategies. He has been recognized as an IEEE Fellow (1998) for contributions to power engineering education.
Rahman actively engages with global initiatives, such as chairing the IEEE-ITU Symposium on Climate Resilience (2024) and advocating for sustainable energy policies. His work bridges academia and industry, focusing on practical solutions for energy systems and environmental sustainability.
