Sai Shruthi Chivukula

Sai Shruthi Chivukula is an Assistant Professor at the School of Information, Pratt Institute, Manhattan, New York. She leads the Translate research group and is a core faculty member in the Master of Science in Information Experience Design program. Previously, she was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, Indiana University Bloomington. Her academic journey includes a Ph.D. from Purdue University and a B.Des from IIT Guwahati.

Her research lies at the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience Design, Ethics and Values, and critical qualitative research. She conducts translational work to design, educate, develop, and disseminate ethics-focused supports for awareness, reflection, and action among technology and design practitioners. Her work emphasizes co-design, ethical mediation, dark patterns, and feminist perspectives in HCI.

Her recent publications reflect a strong trend in developing methods and tools for ethical design practice, with a focus on scaffolding ethical deliberation, mapping ethical tensions, and creating computational and reflective tools for practitioners. The research spans qualitative and mixed methods, often involving co-creation with designers and developers.
