Sabine Van Der Veer

Sabine Van Der Veer is a Senior Lecturer in Health Data Sciences at the University of Manchester, affiliated with the Division of Informatics, Imaging & Data Sciences and the Centre for Health Informatics. She holds a PhD and MSc in Health Informatics from the University of Amsterdam. Her research focuses on leveraging digital health technologies to improve care for individuals with long-term conditions, emphasizing patient-generated health data, mHealth interventions, and implementation science. She teaches on the joint MSc Health Informatics program, leading courses on Health Information Systems and Technologies and co-leading Personal Health Informatics.

Research interests include symptom reporting, patient portals, and the integration of digital tools into clinical practice. She supervises multiple PhD students and has led/co-led projects such as 'Transforming outpatient consultations' and 'Assembling the Data Jigsaw.' Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health equity and quality education. Recent publications explore digital pain management tools, equitable text messaging for hypertension, and integrating patient data across healthcare providers.
