Sabine Toppe

Prof. Dr. Sabine Toppe is a Professor of History of Social Work at ASH Berlin, a university specializing in applied social sciences. Her research focuses on the historical development of social work, particularly through the Alice Salomon Archive, which preserves the legacy of Alice Salomon (1872–1948), a pioneer in professionalizing social work. She investigates themes such as post-colonial influences on social work, the role of women’s movements, and marginalized groups' experiences in social and healthcare systems.

Key projects include KOL-LAB, analyzing social work as a colonial knowledge archive, and Aufbruch, Abbruch, Wiederkehr, exploring social work’s evolution as a women’s profession (1890–1955). Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary challenges like migration, healthcare equity, and gender diversity.
