Sabine Gosselke Berthelsen is a Researcher in General Linguistics at the Centre for Languages and Literature, Lund University. Her work focuses on the intersection of language processing, acquisition, and prosody, with particular emphasis on second language learning.
Her research interests include:
- Psycholinguistics
- Neurolinguistics
- Second language acquisition
- Prosody
- Language processing
- Phonology
Dr. Berthelsen's current research examines how first and second language users process a typologically rare prosody-morphology interaction in Danish. She investigates whether second language users' ability to identify and utilize unfamiliar prosody in spoken language comprehension can be durably improved through training. Her work combines experimental methods with neurophysiological measures to understand language processing mechanisms.
Her recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on language prediction, prosody acquisition, and the neural underpinnings of language processing. She has made significant contributions to understanding how prosodic cues function in language comprehension, particularly for second language learners.
Dr. Berthelsen is actively involved in several research projects:
- "Second language learner processing of prosodic cues: Danish stød in the brain" (2021-2024)
- "TEAM: Transdisciplinary Approaches to Learning, Acquisition, Multilingualism" (2024-2029)
She has been active in the academic community through numerous presentations and conference participations, including:
- Organizing the "Tone and prediction in language" workshop (2023)
- Presenting at Interspeech 2023
- Co-organizing the SLING 2023 conference
