Prof. Bieberstein's research interests center on New Testament exegesis with particular focus on Pauline studies, the Gospel of Luke, resurrection theology, and gender research in biblical interpretation. Her work demonstrates a consistent engagement with feminist perspectives on biblical texts and the practical application of biblical scholarship to contemporary church life. She has developed a distinctive approach that connects detailed textual analysis with considerations of how biblical texts can inform modern Christian practice and community building. Her research on collective identity construction in early Christian communities, particularly through the lens of the Galatians letter, represents significant scholarly contribution to understanding early Christianity within its historical context.
Analysis of Prof. Bieberstein's recent publications reveals several key trends in her scholarly work. She demonstrates increasing engagement with practical applications of biblical scholarship for contemporary Christian communities, particularly around themes of inclusion, community building, and social justice. Her research shows a consistent feminist perspective that examines gender dynamics in biblical texts while connecting these to modern issues. There's a notable focus on how biblical narratives about meals, community, and relationships can inform contemporary church practices. Her work increasingly addresses ecological concerns through biblical lenses, particularly in examining ancient agricultural metaphors and their contemporary relevance. The publications also show her continued interest in Pauline theology, particularly how early Christian identity formation can inform modern Christian communities navigating cultural change.
Prof. Bieberstein has demonstrated significant leadership in academic administration, serving in multiple governance roles at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt including as Dean of the Faculty of Religious Education/Church Educational Work (2014-2017), Pro-Dean (2007-2009, 2020-2021), and as Equal Opportunities Commissioner at both faculty and university levels. She has supervised numerous theses on diverse New Testament topics, with particular emphasis on gender-related themes and practical applications of biblical texts. Her academic service extends to editorial roles, including coordinating editor of the Yearbook of the European Society for Theological Research by Women (2003-2009) and co-editor of the book series FrauenBibelArbeit (2005-2020).
Prof. Bieberstein leads or participates in several academic initiatives including the continuing education certificate program 'Catholic Reform Pedagogy with Special Consideration of the Marchtal Plan' (since WS 2012/2013). She is an active member of multiple scholarly organizations including the Working Group of Catholic New Testament Scholars (AKN), the German Association for the Exploration of Palestine, and the European Society for Theological Research by Women (ESWTR). Her academic work is complemented by regular study trips to biblical regions including multiple excursions to Israel/Palestine, Jerusalem, and Rome, which inform her contextual understanding of biblical texts.
