Sabina Strmic Palinkas serves as Professor of geochemistry and mineral geology at the Department of Geosciences, UiT The Arctic University of Norway. Her research spans multiple continents with particular focus on Arctic environments, Balkan mineral deposits, and marine geological systems. She maintains an active research program investigating mineral formation processes and environmental impacts of mining activities across diverse geological settings.
Her research interests concentrate on geochemistry and mineral geology, with specific expertise in isotope geochemistry, hydrothermal systems, ore deposit formation, and environmental geochemistry. Her work integrates field studies, laboratory analyses, and experimental approaches to understand mineralization processes and their environmental implications. Current research focuses on Arctic mineral resources, hydrothermal systems in post-collisional settings, and environmental impacts of historical mining operations.
Analysis of her recent publications (2022-2025) reveals a strong trend toward interdisciplinary research connecting geological processes with environmental impacts. Her work spans traditional economic geology topics like ore deposit characterization while increasingly incorporating environmental considerations of mineral resources. Notable themes include isotope geochemistry applications, hydrothermal fluid evolution, mineral deposit formation in diverse tectonic settings, and environmental geochemistry of mining-affected systems.
Professor Strmic Palinkas maintains extensive international collaborations across Europe, with research partners in North Macedonia, Croatia, Norway, and other countries. Her work appears in leading journals including Ore Geology Reviews, Minerals, Science of the Total Environment, and Geologica Macedonica. She is actively involved in research addressing both fundamental geological questions and practical environmental concerns related to mineral resources.
