Professor Saber Fallah is a Professor of Safe AI and Autonomy at the University of Surrey and Director of the Connected Autonomous Vehicle Research Lab (CAV-Lab). His research focuses on safe and trustworthy AI-enabled autonomous systems, with emphasis on robotic and autonomous vehicles, neuro-symbolic reinforcement learning, and model-based optimal control. He leads a team collaborating with international companies to advance the UK and global state-of-the-art in connected autonomous vehicles (CAVs).
Prof Fallah holds a PhD and is a Professional Engineer (PEng). His work has earned the 2019 Guildford Innovation Award in Emerging Technologies. He oversees postgraduate research including projects on 3D digital map construction for autonomous navigation, learning-based MPC motion-planning for robotic manipulators, and robust distributed control systems for CAVs.
- Research Interests: Safe AI/Autonomy, Deep Reinforcement Learning, Neuro-Symbolic Learning, Model-Based Optimal Control
- Lab Leadership: CAV-Lab (Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Lab)
- Collaborations: Industry partnerships for applied CAV research
His teaching and supervision focus on advanced control systems, autonomous robotics, and AI ethics. He advises on multi-objective optimization for planetary rovers and distributed control systems.
