Dr. Sabarethinam Kameshwar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Louisiana State University (LSU), within the College of Engineering. His research focuses on infrastructure and community resilience, multi-hazard performance of structures, and decision support systems for extreme events. He holds a Ph.D. from Rice University and a B.S. from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, Rice University (2017)
- B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (2012)
Research Interests:
Dr. Kameshwar investigates infrastructure resilience to natural hazards, including hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes. His work integrates machine learning, fragility modeling, and decision-support frameworks to improve community resilience. Key areas include:
- Multi-hazard performance of bridges, buildings, and oil storage tanks
- Surrogate modeling for natural hazards research
- Decision support under uncertainties
- Life-cycle analysis and sustainability of infrastructure
Students and Advising:
He currently advises doctoral students focused on topics like road network resilience, bridge load prediction, and tsunami-induced debris impacts. Former advisees include Sai Aditya Bandaru, who studied bridge load posting prediction.
Labs and Collaborations:
His research group collaborates on projects such as post-hurricane reconnaissance (e.g., Hurricane Ida, Hurricane Laura) and experimental studies on tsunami debris damming forces. They also contribute to datasets like the StEER initiative.
