Dr. Saad Omer is a Professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. His research focuses on epidemiology of respiratory viruses (influenza, RSV, and SARS-CoV-2), vaccine efficacy trials, interventions to improve immunization coverage, and global health policy. He has contributed to policy recommendations for maternal immunization, HIV prevention, and pandemic response strategies.
Key roles include service on the World Health Organization’s SAGE vaccine advisory group, Gavi’s board of trustees, and the National Vaccine Advisory Committee. His work has informed health legislation in multiple countries and been published in top-tier journals like New England Journal of Medicine and Lancet.
Dr. Omer has mentored over 100 students and researchers, advancing the next generation of public health professionals. His awards include the Maurice Hilleman Award for maternal influenza vaccine research and election to the National Academy of Medicine.
His recent articles address vaccine hesitancy, pandemic policy drivers, and equity challenges in vaccine distribution. Ongoing work examines long-COVID immune profiling and behavioral interventions to enhance vaccine acceptance.
