Dr. S.A. Jones is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, University of Groningen, specializing in antihydrogen experiments and ion trapping. He is a key member of the CERN ALPHA collaboration, where he focuses on synthesizing, trapping, and performing precision laser/microwave spectroscopy on antimatter.
- 2017: PhD in Physics from Swansea University
- 2017-2021: Postdoctoral research at Aarhus University
- 2021-2022: Postdoc at Swansea University
- 2022-present: Assistant Professor at University of Groningen
His research aims to resolve the matter-antimatter asymmetry by comparing hydrogen and antihydrogen in identical traps. He is developing a cold atomic hydrogen source compatible with ALPHA experiments and exploring permanent magnet traps for a potential hydrogen optical clock to redefine the SI second.
Key publication trends include antimatter spectroscopy (2015-2025), CERN-based experiments, and innovations in ion trapping/cooling. His work has been cited in 53 Scopus publications and featured in 174 news outlets.
Dr. Jones has organized the Early Career Conference in Trapped Ions (2022) and delivered professional presentations on hydrogen production and precision physics. He supervises projects related to laser cooling, molecular photodissociation, and antimatter research.
