S. Ghorai

Professor S. Ghorai is a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur). He holds a PhD from the University of Leeds (1997), an M.Sc. from the University of Calcutta (1993), and a B.Sc. from the University of Calcutta (1991).

Professor Ghorai's research interests focus on Mathematical Biology, Bio-fluid Dynamics, and Computational Fluid Dynamics. His work primarily investigates the complex interactions between microorganisms and fluid flows, with particular emphasis on bioconvection phenomena. He has made significant contributions to understanding gyrotactic bioconvection, phototactic bioconvection, and the stability of microorganism suspensions in various flow configurations.

His recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on bioconvection phenomena, particularly examining how microorganisms like algae interact with and influence fluid flows. His research spans both theoretical and computational approaches to model these complex biological-fluid systems, with applications in environmental science and biological engineering.

Professor Ghorai teaches courses in Numerical Analysis, Fluid Mechanics, and Dynamical Systems. His current teaching assignment includes MTH102A: Mathematics II. His office is located in room FB-559 in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at IIT Kanpur.
