Rükan Genç Altürk is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Mersin University (2018–present) and a part-time affiliated researcher at Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center (SUNUM, 2020–present). She holds a PhD in Chemical and Process Engineering. Her research focuses on nanotechnology, materials science, and bio-applications, with emphasis on fluorescent carbon dots, smart polymeric materials, and drug delivery systems.
Key research areas include synthesis of pH/temperature-responsive hydrogels, self-healing materials, antimicrobial coatings, and luminescent nanocomposites for optoelectronics and food packaging. Her work bridges nanomaterials design with biomedical and environmental applications.
Publications highlight advancements in carbon dot-based composites, hydrogel drug delivery systems, and multifunctional materials. She is a member of the American Chemical Society and holds a patent on hydrophilic/hydrophobic fluorescent carbon nanoparticles.
